RM of Hillsborough’s story
The Rural Municipality of Hillsborough No. 132 was incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. It lies in southern Saskatchewan, and the unincorporated communities of Lillestrom and Old Wives are found within its boundaries.
Much of the land is rolling pasture, along with Old Wives Lake, and that shapes the municipality to this day. Because of it, Hillsborough has often been one of the least populated rural municipalities in the province.
It is also the smallest RM in Saskatchewan by area, covering about 445 square kilometres. Its council meets on the second Tuesday of each month, and the municipal office is located in Moose Jaw.
